...so I sit here thinking...in this gloomy New Hampshire weather. And I think how much this weather and my life have in common. Gray sunless skyies, hidden hope of something unknown yet to come. Rain when all I want is to play, the undesired change of plans.

...so I sit here watching my six wonderful little adventure companions... I see them play in the rain that I was wishing away, they are my hope that I can continue on this unknown path. I see them run to me and say "come and play".

...So I shall run to them and say thank you for being my lovely rays of sunshine in these cloudy days of mine...

...So I say YES to this Grand Adventure which is MY LIFE...

Life Art: Glory...
                 It is not for my glory that I do what I do or say what I say. I am here not of my own doing.
I live and breath to the Glory of the only one who gives each breath. What I say and do can be a reflection of Him, but only if I am gazing on that which I most want to be.

Master is a term that indicates a consummate level of skill, proficiency, superiority or power...

                  He is the master ( in the truest scenes of the word). And what do you do with a master?
You are at their side asking every question you can. Learning their trade, craft, knowledge, wisdom.

But now that you've found you don't have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God's gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master. (St Paul)

                 Sin (and living for myself) is no longer my master. Living in the dark unseen places brought only dull, lifeless and shadowy scenery.
                 I have a new grace filled and glorious Master. Now, dwelling in the bright colorful life God has for me; OH the Art I have to gaze upon. This art is worth learning. This art is worth sharing and giving in abundance to all who share, even one moment of this journey with me.

                  It seems to me that a master (in years past) sought out who they would teach. They would see potential in an other, for learning what they (the master) had to share. What happened to this practice? The master, seeing a part of himself or what he is passionate about in the heart of another. Thankfully God has not left this practice in the dust...


                     I really like something said by Aslan to Jill in the silver chair " ...you would not be calling to me if I had not been calling to you first..."

We are again coming to the point were we do not know where we will be sleeping! Next week we move from the place we have called home for a few short months.
We have really enjoyed this space. And feel blessed by friendships we have made while being here.

Josh and I always have a hard time when it gets to this point ( dejavoo?..."I've seen that tree before"). Each repeat of these similar scenarios we learn something new of our selves, of our kids, and how much we still have to learn about life and growing to be the family we really want to be.

Grace:
disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy
a characteristic or quality pleasing for its charm or refinement

The of Grace
God is always gently showing me amidst these scenarios where the art of grace needs to be used. Grace is the one thing that I so truly desire to decorate my life...yet it is the hardest Life Art to create! Like any art it must be practiced. I really try but I am not very good at consistency. I will not blame my situation, as I have done in the past. But I will use my situation to perfect the art that I so dearly wish to decorate my "walls" with.

The wife, mother, daughter and friend I am growing to be is Grace-filled...

May every step I take lead me closer to Grace...

A Sweet Moment...

...now that I have come out of my sugar induced coma , thanks to none other then the above pictured marshmallows dipped in melted chocolate chips...

maybe I really can survive the rest of this crazy cold weather.

It was so great to have a few "sweet" moments with just one boy. I have had a very hard time as of late feeling like I am doing well connecting one on one with my six little sweet hearts. And I have been searching high and low to find a fun and meaning filled some thing to share with them...

I have come to see lately that All six of them have a very different way of giving and receiving love, attention, affection, how you want to say it...

Kid numero Uno ...( you'll understand my use of espaniol in a momento)

...Well He IS quirky and fun. He loves to take things apart put them back together, likes being crafty in sewing and reusing what ever he can get his "paws" on. Paws that's the "quirky" part at any given moment he could be Him or any animal you can think up, real or not.

Kid numero Dos...very active brainy. And most of the time simple to please. Happy to be your right hand buddy in just about any task from cleaning to building. See? short and simple!

Kid numero Trace....Hey and his name is even Trace how "funny" is that! ( just a little play on words)

And boy is He Funny! He loves to make you laugh with a good joke and dance with you till your dizzy.

Little miss number 4! She is for sure the diamond in the rough (she being the Diamond and the 5 Rough boys :-)
She loves to play little mommy yet still loves to play knights in battle with "her boys" as she calls them.

And then my Sunny little number 5! Just 2 and so willing to play with any and all. He will cuddle for the reading of book after book after book...And man can he Shake the house will his Jolly Jumping!

Last but definitely not the least is Baby #6! He turns 9 months on Friday :-( I love that he is growing up. But time just seems to move faster and faster. At the moment he is still mostly entertained by watching the others. But I know all too well that won't last for long. Very soon we will start to see his dreams and hear his joys.

And isn't that what life is all about? Seeing and enjoying what is right here at our finger tips! Every thing from Marshmallows to Quirky. Brainy to Dizzying. Lovely to Jolly.

That is a lot more then I started out wanting to say. But there you have it. The beautiful uniqueness of all my children.

May I be filled with all the creativity it takes to love each of them as they should be loved.

So this morning I actually made breakfast! Wow!

Not really ever been great at the hot breakfast thing,

but thought I would try again. And to my great delight it ended

with many full and happy tummies!

I thought I would try a bagel version of an oven french toast.

I took and 8x10 baking dish greased it with butter, cut up the 3 bagels into discs tossed them into the pan, then beat 12 eggs (yes 1dz. this is why we got chickens) so again 1dz eggs beat with 1 cup of milk, pour over bagels in pan and bake at 350 for about 25-30 min. Sorry I wasn't paying close attention to how long it took. Just wait till it looks like the egg part is fully cooked. Then I made a sauce with some melted butter, syrup, and some homemade blueberry jelly. Then poured it over it as soon as I took it out of the oven.

Oh what beautiful weather we had today!
We spent most of the day outside. We played, watched chickens, planted, sat on a blanket and read some of one of our favorite series; The Magic Tree House.

Then Lizzie and I did some wondering!

It was so fun to find some daisies, they are one of my favorite flowers.

We also got in some swinging time down by the river! I wish everyone could have a view like this!

It was so special to have some one on one time with my girl!
While we were wondering, the boys were playing in the dirt, can't get any better!

Renewed Spaces Part One! Sweet little Dag

It feels so good to Renew a space doesn't it?

(I just love how bright and sunny his room is)
We finally got his big boy crib set up thanks to my friend Laura who had a mattress :)

this is the name square of the little rag quilt I made him last year

The older kids and I put this shadow box together one saturday a few months back. The two little shirts a friend made for Dagnae when he was born. The giraffe was the first toy I made him, he wouldn't let go of it for the first 6 months or so. And the little Peter Rabbit patch is a scrap from his quilt.
I also thought I would hang his First Birthday Crown with the box. It just seemed to complete every thing.

Oh and last but not least this awesome little rug finishes of the room.
Can any one guess what it is made from?
Yes! those silly old ,so thick you can't stand a cup on them place mats (you the ones all our grandmas had,God rest their souls). Well I finally found a good use for them! This rug. It was great to go into my favorite thrift store and see that stack of eight blue place mats. My first thought was, Hey! those would make a great rug, and they did.

Well as I said this just part one. We have been doing a lot of space renewing around here as of late. I thinks it's due to the new season and excitement of a new baby. It seems only fitting that the inside should get a freshening up along with every thing out side coming back to life. So stay tuned for more.

Our Inner Garden...

I have been thinking a lot lately about growth, watching things bloom in our garden and beginning plans for planting new things.
Also the growing up of my own little sprouts (the kids)
Well in these thoughts I was brought to a little reading in Celebrate The Seasons. Trees starting to bud!

Some sprouting seeds Joziah found while we were at the park!

A growing baby, so big now I can't even look down and see my feet (smile)!
only about eight weeks left!

For us the signs of spring are bursting all around us. Our garden is getting ready to show of it's color,
our grass is turning green! We are making plans for our new flock of chicks that will come in a few weeks.
We are planing and mapping out the Biggest garden we have ever had (very thrilling).
And we are excitedly getting ready for our new baby with sewing, knitting, bassinet making and for sure some lovely things from it's 5 wonderfull siblings!

I hope you are all having a gloriously wonderfilled Spring!

What A Treasure!

So do any of you remember the old Fisher-Price toys?

I went to a friends thrift store this past saturday. And most thrift store can no longer (because of some law stuff) sell toys. Well while I was in there she said she had something I might like. Some one brought in TWO HUGE bags of some thing she felt bad turning away. The person was being so generous.....
Well guess what it was?

Old and like new Fisher-Price stuff!!!!!!!!!
A barn, cows ( that still had their tales!!), sheep.
The house, with a man and car,and well the list goes on.
This is a very BIG blessing and the fact that it is enough for all 5 to enjoy together just adds the proverbial Icing to the BIG cake. It also came at the perfect time since we have had 2,
and could possibly have a 3rd day of rain (in a row).

It has been nice to see things Josh and I remember playing with, bringing such joy to our own kids.
Oh and I can't believe I forgot that best part. Since the store couldn't sell them, she gave them to us.
I am trying to think of a special way to say thanks. The store gives it's proceeds to help cancer patients so maybe we can make something to donate.

I hope where ever you are you are feeling well and able to see the refreshing signs of spring
popping up around you.

Oh sweet Maple Tree how I love thee!

So today was Maine Maple Sunday!
We got to enjoy going to a Sap House with some friends.
Unfortunately the kids had more fun hiding in the (fake) well,
but that's boys for ya.
The place was really great they answered any questions we had.
They had samples of maple sugar coated peanuts,
maple butter, apple crisp(made with maple syrup) and cider sweetened with maple.

Oh what a sweet treat, is time with my little buddy Trace!

We went out to the thrift store for some much needed pants for this not so little buddy, Agway to finally order our chickens, and last but surly not least to indulged our selves in some choclate. In the form of milk and doughnuts. What could make this rainy day any better!

I also had the joy of starting and finishing a little project. All in one day! Amazing!

( It was very odd putting a picture into water)

I have been wanting to do something a little diferent with a few of the kid's baby pictures that I have saved over the years. So I seen some people use the printer fabric and thought I could give a go. The process was fun and simple ( simple is the key right now). Josh helped pick the picture and also helped get it printed correctly. I bought the hoop at the thrift store today (thrifting is so fun). The pink fabric was a remnant of one of her baby blankets. And the green and white fabric used as the hanger was form the binding of her toddler quilt. Oh the memories.And finally the dear picture of Aliza was taken by a good friend when she was just 2 weeks old. She is now 3. How time flies.

We are going to do one of each of the kids and hang them in our room!

I hope to be able to show them all as they arrive.

My February Change is here!

If you remember I had asked for help in figuring out my change for this month. And thanks to my dear friend Kate I have it. She, noticeing how much lovely sun my kitchen (and whole house for that matter) gets; said "why don't you grow some herbs". I thought what a brilliant idea.
So I am going to put a sweet little shelf in front of one of my kitchen windows. On it I will grow several great herbs for cooking and maybe a bulb or two for extra color. I also got a nifty idea from another blogger to have what I think she called a living center piece, on our dinning table. She had mint,and a few other things I can't remember. And she said her kids thought it was " awesome". We will have fun growing some more things there too.
I also wanted to take it one step further. I thought why not try puting some kind of a plant in EVERY room, especially maybe something with flowers. Who wouldn't love a little more color in this very dreery month of February? I know I would.
Thank you Kate for your inspiration. I will hopefully get some good pictures of all our planting fun. So check back at the end of the week.

FINALLY HOME MADE CEREAL!!!!!!

Hello All! I finally got the cereal made! It came out good. The one on the left is the finished Healthy N' Happy and the other is the Graham Nuts before the first baking. I and my husband liked them both the kids liked the graham nuts as a snack. Some friends and family stayed with us over night this weekend and their kids loved the graham nuts. At first they thought it was brown sugar, who wouldn't love a bowl of that for breakfast?

you should be able to type homemade cereal and find the list. It seemed that most of the cold cereal was nearer the bottom of the list.
I feel good having been able to fulfill my goal for January. Still pondering for February. Any ideas out there?

I also thought ya'll would like to see a few of the kids on their new family heirloom sled :). It was used by their paternal grandfather and his siblings as kids, how fun! Lets just pray for more snow soon, very soon.
And this is me in the first sweater I knit for myself. I got the pattern at http://www.ravelry.com it is the shalom cardigan. It was so fun and thrilling to make something that big, and have it look good.
Oh and I forgot to say the healthy n' happy is more like muesli less like granola, my favorite way to have it is with yogurt.

One Small Change: My January Change

Happy New Year All!!! About a week ago I found a post by the mom at Hip Mountain Mama. She is challenging any one who desires to make one small change each month from January to Earth Day in April. The changes can be big or small what ever you feel you can handle and see them through to completion.

I have had to put a lot of thought into this idea. With Josh not working still, money is ...well not really here. During this time we are being blessed by our friends and the community. This means food and household changes are almost impossible. We already use less fuel , check . We heat with a wood stove, check. Compost, check. Recycle, check. So along with a few other things we already do to conserve what ever we can , I asked my self what is left?

I thought I could, even with small and some times non existent budget, I could try eliminating boxed cereal from our kitchen and diet. At first I thought it would be hard to find good easy to make ( specifically cold cereal). Well last night I found this great sight Mr Breakfast. It had many great recipes and a good number of them were for COLD CEREAL Yahoo !!! I am hoping that at least one of them will be liked by my picky boy, the other 4 I think would eat dirt if you made it look good (haha). :)

So this is my small change for January. I will post the recipes and pictures as we try them.

THE SWEATER!!!!

Wow I can't believe I knit my first sweater! I am so pleased with how well it came out. The pattern was so great and simple to follow. With 5 little ones running around I need simple, or it doesn't get done. Sorry the pictures aren't so good (need a new camera). I was able to find some lovely buttons to go with it they are clay with sail boats on them. I was so glad to find them. While making the sweater I said to one of my sisters doesn't the color remind you of the sea! So the sail boats were a must. Isn't Dag so cute! The sweater makes him so iresistable to being held and held and held!

But then again he is 11 months so the holding only lasts so long ( they grow to fast).

It took me just a week, friday to friday. The rest of the kids want one. So here I go knit, knit, knit!!! I will share pictures as they happen.

I guess our new front door is a good place to start!

So much has happened since I last had the chance to journal here. Just a few of the things in our crazy summer...my wonderful sister-in-law got married Yahoo. It was a great and beautiful and fun and very love filled day. I do have pictures to post from that blessed day, but with the earlier then expected move some things got misplaced (not surprising).
In short God has greatly blessed us in many more ways then we could ever have thought possible. But then again it our thoughts and minds are so limited compared to His.
For those who are wondering we know live in BEAUTIFUL Eliot Maine. I love it sheep next door sheep down the street......to be continued soon I hopE....

Home again! Home again!

Home at last! Aaahhh. Fresh air. The comforts of home we have been home about an hour and we already have laundry going, baby in a cloth diaper, bread going in the bread maker. Oh how I love being home.
Will post pics later of our trip to and from Chicago for sis-in -law's wedding it was so lovely and full of Mennonite tradition. The dancing oh the dancing!.....

Here he has gotten them all ( minus Dag too small to hold a hammer) together to build a "porch"! I just love to see a good Leader in the making.

Our Joker he is always good for a laugh!!! and a smile :)

He also loves to learn and think about almost anything.

And this, the part that still needs love and constant patience.

My challenging "fence sitter". I am very excited to see the strong and determined man he will become.

I pray daily that God will guide us as his parents to show him to look to God in all he does.

This is not what I was planning on writing about today, but it is what I've been thinking about allot. So here it is... My resolutions ( I know it's May!)

Over the next 6 months:

things I would like to stop buying from a mainstream store:

disposable diapers/ wipes

milk

eggs

bread

cereals

ice cream

crackers

snacks

Over the next year (maybe 2)

things to stop buying from mainstream stores:

fruits

veggies

any dairy products

bread making supplies

meats

Things I want to and need to learn to help this happen:

perfect my bread making and buy a grain mill

caring for chickens :)

growing what we can

eating with the seasons ( don't eat what's not in season, meat and other things)

Well my list could go on and will continue I'm sure but life outside my computer still goes on... :)

5 happy children await me in their freshly filled sand box. their laughter is calling me.

All my resolutions are for those 5 shining happy faces, some resolutions may change and grow over time but the reasons are still the same. I want to teach what ever I can to my little ones and show how to enjoy every minute of life that God has for them. Thank you God for my precious family!

The best part of a rainy day with little ones!

This is the recipe for the paint:

1/4 cup dry milk
1/4 cup instant vanilla pudding ( obviously we only had chocolate)
2/3 cup water
2 tbsp peanut butter

mix it all together (let the kids help :) that's most of the fun)

we used it on wax paper, use what ever you like.

Add a kid or two or five and enjoy! :)

Ta Da flying Baby!!!

This next pic is a wool felted ball I made for Dag the other day. It started out from a mistake.

Some of the best things start out that way, don't they!

It started with a beautifull skein of baby blue mohair/wool blend getting in with a load of wash :(.

While taking the clothes out to go in the dryer there it was. There was no undoing it. So I stop for a minute to think... it was already round... why not make a ball with it. So I used a rattle recycled from an old toy :) stuffed it in the center stuffed it in the toe of a clean sock(to help keep it round), threw it in the dryer with everything else. After that I thought I would make it look nicer by needle felting some agua and red felting wool that I had to the outside.

I am pleased with it and he enjoys rolling it around. :)

Spring has finaly come to the frozen north!!!

The season for playing in the mud, hunting for worms(I'll post a picture of that too :) ),

I don't know about you, but the lose of someone close helps me stop and think about life in many ways... My husband and I met because of this friend, he had a gift of connecting people. I know he knew how much he meant to our family... I feel like anything I think to say just isn't quite right,,. his memorial service was beautiful...he blessed so many, and through those he left behind can continue to pass on his legacy.
Well I guess what I'm try to say is stop and think for a minute,.. tell the people in your life what they mean to you. Be creative about it, toss a ball with your kid, go for a walk with your spouse, give a friend a hug. Love comes in all shapes and sizes.
I will leave you with quote I heard the other day "...when your hands are open to give they are open to receive..."

It may be a gloomy day outside, not inside. The littlest lovie is down for his nap :). And the older lovies and I are cleaning house. It all started when they wanted to make a tent in the family room and move one of the lounge chairs... OOOOH the things find under your furniture :)...

Oh today was beautiful New England day! This is my little lady in a hat I made. I found the fabric at a local resource center last fall and waited for just the right thing to use it for.And there it is... I also made a hat for our sweet baby boy with it...
